Hair Care Products
Besides obvious beauty products - shampoo and conditioner - hair care products are divided into liquid lotions, sprays, and foams or styling mousses.
The basic components of both liquids and foams are film formers.
Mousses
Mousses are available for every hair type. Mousse gives the hair hold and is distributed in the towel-dried hair after it is washed. It is ideal for adding volume to fine, thin hair.
Apply to the roots of the hair to help lift the strands up.
Gel
Gel provides hold and is terrific for wet effects. Gels are simple to use. Apply it to dry or moist hair and model the hairstyle as desired.
There are straightening gels, which are thick and heavy, and smoothing gels, which are light, almost like a liquid.
Cream
Cream offers more care ingredients. The creams do not exert as strong a holding effect as gels, but only gently shape.
Apply it into slightly moist or dry hair.
Wax
Wax is perfect for hair styling. It gives the hair shape, structure and height, without weighing it down. The hair is also protected from drying out.
Spray
There are hair spray and hair lacquer.
Hair lacquer is especially strong and holds longer. Use it for extreme hairstyles. It provides a shiny surface film.
Hair spray is for a natural, but firm hold. It protects hair from wind, moisture and sun. It is applied to the hair as a fine mist.
Balm
Balm adds shine and manageability. Balms banish frizzies. Apply balm to wet hair sparingly.
Detanglers
Detanglers help you get a comb through either wet or dry hair. They work like leave-in conditioners.
Molding mud
It is thick and heavy and creates body in specific areas of the hair. Use it to create curls, finger waves or spikes.
Pomade
Pomades tame curly hair by texturizing, separating and adding shine. Apply it to any hair type except very fine hair as pomade can weigh it down.
In most cases the salon hair products are better than the products sold at your local grocer.
