It is now available without prescription as a topically applied liquid in solutions like Rogaine. A 2% solution is a treatment for both men and women, but a 5% version is approved only for men.
Minoxidil topical lotion only works on active hair follicles still capable of producing hair. It does not stop the causes of hair loss, but simply overrides the symptoms.
Some people who take Minoxidil only grow hair that is thin and wispy. It seems that Minoxidil works best on people younger than 30 years of age who have been losing hair for fewer than five years.
The most common side effects of hair loss Minoxidil are skin irritation and an itchy scalp. In women, Minoxidil might cause facial hair growth, especially on the forehead and cheeks.
How to apply hair loss Minoxidil:
Your hair and scalp must be completely dry before applying this medication.
Apply Minoxidil to the area of the scalp being treated; start in the center of the area.
Do not shampoo your hair for four hours after applying Minoxidil.
Do not use a hairdryer to dry the scalp after you apply medication.
llow the Minoxidil to completely dry for two to four hours after applying it.
