Facts about Hair Extensions
- Hair extensions are the only cure for long-hair longing.
- The best extensions are made from real human hair.
- They usually take about an hour to stick in.
- They last about 3 to 8 weeks; however, they can be reused for up to one year.
- There are two main types of hair extensions: Individual strands and Wefts.
- The Individual method involves taking 20-50 strands of extension hair and applying to small sections of your own hair
- Wefts are the best type of hair extensions. They look like a curtain of hair attached together at the top and free flowing at the bottom. They can be hand made or machine made.
- There are 4 types of human hair used in hair extension: Asian hair (very straight and dark, don’t expect it to last), European quality hair (gathered in India and Pakistan; dark colors and not chemically treated, don’t expect it to last.), European hair (collected in Italy and Spain; wavy and dark shades, durable, looks good and last up to a year), Raw/Virgin hair (the best quality hair possible, very expensive and not chemically treated, can last many years).
- There is also synthetic hair (basically plastic). It is not good; you will look like you’ve got a plastic bag stuck to your head. Synthetic hair, however, is excellent for dreadlocks.
- Your extensions can have any length you want up to about 26″-30″.
- Great Lengths hair extensions are the best (Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez are using them). They come in strands that are bonded to the hair at the root with a keratin substance.
- Great Lengths human hair extensions last up to 6 months. To have a whole head of extensions put in takes about 8 hours and costs $1,500 to $2,000. The hair must be brushed 3 times every day.
- Another, less committed, option is clip-in hair extensions. Raquel Welch clip-in locks come in 18- and 14-inch lengths. They are the cheapest option ($300 and $400) and very popular.
