Damaged Hair Advice



Hair damage means that the outer layer of the hair shaft (cuticle) is rough, chipped and cracked. Damaged hair is dry, frizzy, breaks easily and falls excessively.

There are many things that can damage hair, such as excessive washing, brushing and combing or frequent chemical treatments.

Causes of hair damage include:

- Bleach, permanent colors, perms, and straighteners.
- Rubber bands, barettes and tight ponytails.
- Too-hot blow dryers, hot rollers and curlers.
- Sun’s ultraviolet rays can your damage hair.
- Not oiling and conditioning your hair on a regular basis.
- Not trimming your split ends.
- Sleeping in tight rollers.
- Pulling braids too tightly.
- Some medications and illnesses.

Before everything else, you must discover what is causing the problem. If a chemical process, such as perming, was the cause, discontinue the treatment.

Next, handle your hair with care.

Deep condition your hair at least two times in seven days.

Frequently trim the hair to prevent split ends.

A quick fix is to take one to three drops of mineral oil in your hand. Rub your hands together and scrunch into dry hair.

Use of a drop of silicone serum to smooth down hair cuticle.
