Brazilian Keratin Treatment Danger!!!
Brazilian Keratin Treatment is a new hair-straightening process that produces great results and works well for up to 4 months.
However, there is one big danger! The treatment uses the preservative formaldehyde, a chemical that causes cancer (The FDA does not restrict the use of formaldehyde in cosmetics.).
Dr. Ellen Marmur, a dermatologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, said that formaldehyde kills everything it comes into contact with.
BKT uses a type of protein called keratin to straighten hair. But experts say it’s formaldehyde that makes the treatment work.
There are different reports on how much formaldehyde Brazilian Keratin Treatment contains. And what about prolonged exposure.
“The question is, how much does it take to cause cancer” said Dr. Marmur.
Authorities in Brazil have linked one death to BKT (The woman used the treatment herself, improperly).
Marmur stresses, “Why take the chance when there are other, safer options?”
