Brazilian Keratin Treatment is a new hair-straightening process that produces great results and works well for up to 4 months. However, there is one big danger!
The treatment uses the preservative formaldehyde, a chemical that causes cancer (The FDA does not restrict the use of formaldehyde in cosmetics.).
Dr. Ellen Marmur, a dermatologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, said that formaldehyde kills everything it comes into contact with.
BKT uses a type of protein called keratin to straighten hair. But experts say it’s formaldehyde that makes the treatment work.
There are different reports on how much formaldehyde Brazilian Keratin Treatment contains. And what about prolonged exposure.
“The question is, how much does it take to cause cancer” said Dr. Marmur. Authorities in Brazil have linked one death to BKT (The woman used the treatment herself, improperly). Marmur stresses, “Why take the chance when there are other, safer options?”

So, I was hesitant about trying out the BKT, but I am SO HAPPY that I did. People just have to be smart about it, ya know? Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area and follow directions. I am on a college-student budget which deterred me from spending the $300-400 in salons…so my cousin suggested the ENCANTO brand of BKT. She bought it off of EBAY for really cheap. Her hair looked amazing, and now mine does too! The best part was that the Encanto brand was done in 3 hours with no touch-ups needed. I had a friend who waited for 4 days!
So yeah, that’s my advice to people who want amazing hair at an amazing price: ENCANTO BKT. Check it out on ebay.

All Brazilian Keratin Treatments use Formaldehyde or Aldehyde. When heated, both are very toxic. That is why request a musk (preferably “gas mask” not “paper mask”) while getting the treatment.
I love how my hair feels after the treatment. It is silky, and beautiful. In the first month my hair looked straight. Now it is curly, but not frizzy. But, I hated the smell of the treatment during the application process. My eyes were watery, I coughed a lot. Even though my treatment was Formaldehyde free.

ok you just said at the begining that all brazilian keratin treatments use formaldehyde or aldehyde but then at the end you said your treatment was formaldehyge free- your so stupid , don’t be suprised if you find out you have cancer later in life !!!! stupid !!! is your HAIR MORE IMPORTANT THEN YOUR LIFE !!!!!!
so i’ve done the treatment twice… and both times i had to wear goggles and a mask cause it was super strong… but the results are just amazing… i have super curly hair and very hard to manage and maintain, but after getting this done i am usually done styling my hair within 30mins compared to an 1 1/2,
but now that i am finding out it could cancer i am hectic about getting it done a 3rd time… and specially that i haven’t had to pay $300 or near it… i found a legit salon through craigslist for $120…i guess more research needs to be done to decide on weather getting it done or not but overall this product does work
i just finished my treatment…. now i am so scared….does it really cause cancer???…..its that dangerous?!!
