Determining Face Shape

Knowing your hair type and your style preferences are important when selecting a new haircut.

But, the most critical determining factor in finding out if a haircut will suit you is face shapes.

So, before you visit your hairdresser, you need to determine your face shape. This way you will be able to choose a hairstyle that compliments your good features and ‘hides’ your not so flattering features.

How to Determine Face Shape

- Stand in front of the mirror and take a tape measure.

- Measure across the top of your cheekbones. Place the end of the tape measure just past the outer corner of your left eye; next, lay the tape measure in a straight line across the bridge of your nose to just past the outer corner of your right eye. Write down this measurement.

- Measure your forehead. Place the measuring tape on left side of your forehead at the widest point halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline. Run the tape measure along your forehead until you reach the same point on right side of your head. Write down this measurement.

- Measure your jaw line. Begin on left side of your jaw at the base near your ear. Run the tape measure along your jaw line until you reach the middle of your chin. Multiple the number by 2 and note down this measurement.

- Measure the length of your face. Begin at the middle of your hairline. Run the tape measure down your face, over your nose, until you reach the tip of your chin. Jot down this measurement.

Once you know your measurements, it is easy to determine your face shape.
