You can wear big hair during the day and keep it soft using heated rollers and then glam it up for night using Velcro rollers and tongs.

Even if you have the bob look you can still have big hair.

You can use a big round brush to flick it out and create some softness.

For somewhat longer hair you can use wand tongs and wind the hair round, moving from the thinnest part to the thickest on the wand.
