Hair Tips for Black Women

Black women must pay special attention to their hair, especially when chemically straightened.

If you are a black woman with straight hair, here are a few helpful tips.

- Chemically straightened hair is often damaged because relaxers used in the process reduce the hair’s ability to retain moisture. Shampoos remove natural hair oil, and for that reason it is crucial that black women wash their hair only once a week.

- African American women should also limit harsh styling. Setting hair and blow-drying should be limited to weekly routines.

- One of the most important tasks for these women is to replace hair’s moisture using hair oil. Apply oil sparingly to your scalp and then comb through your hair.

- For hair that is chemically straightened, regular deep-conditioning treatments are critical – do it every two weeks.

If you notice hair breakage, consult your hairdresser about the best treatment you should use. If you just want to maintain your hair’s good condition, you can use a treatment which contains avocado or shea butter.
