Non Formaldehyde Brazilian Hair Straightening Treatment

Formaldehyde Free Brazilian Keratin Treatment

You can achieve straighter hair with different methods, such as ironing or chemical relaxing. A very popular technique for a couple of years is Brazilian keratin treatment.

It includes protein keratin and formaldehyde. This hair straightening process leaves your hair looking shinier and smoother for up to three months. Your hair is frizz-free and full of body. It is fantastic for taming the unruly curls.

The process takes roughly an hour and a half and costs between $300 and $400.

However, formaldehyde, which plays a key role in the straightening process, has bad health effects. Because of this, new formulations just reached the market – they are formaldehyde-free.

The FDA did not limit the use of formaldehyde in hair products. However, it is recommended that concentrations should be no more than 0.2%. Many formulations still on the market contain up to 2% formaldehyde.

So, Brazilian Blowout created a new formaldehyde-free formulation.

The new method uses a nontoxic chemical, and each treatment lasts up to 4 months. Cost: about $350 a session.

Besides Brazilian Blowout, two other companies - Márcia Teixeira and Peter Coppola Salon - offer safe Brazilian keratin treatments.

There are also formaldehyde-free at-home kits. One is offered by Brazilian Blowout. The other is offered by Márcia Teixeira, it is called the 4-Step Deep Conditioning Treatment. It costs $70.

Although at-home kits produce results similar to salon treatments, they only last until the next shampoo.
