At Home Hair Color Tips
Thanks to newer and advanced home hair coloring kits and formulations, almost anyone can achieve shiny, long lasting color.
The most important rule you need to follow when determining which shade will suit you best is to stay within 2 or 3 shades of your natural hair color.
So, if you don’t enjoy spending lots of money at the salon, then here are tips on how to apply color yourself. Use these tips and instructions and you too can achieve fantastic at home hair color results.
- Perform a skin patch test 2 - 3 days before coloring your hair.
- You will need an old T-shirt, a few old towels, hair clips, a wide tooth comb, a hand mirror.
- Your hair should be clean and dry. Don’t wash your hair the same day you are coloring. Wait at least 24 hours after shampooing before applying an at home hair coloring kit.
- Add a strip of petroleum jelly along the hair line and around the nape of your neck to help prevent staining.
- Use as much color as you need. If you have fine or short hair, you may not use the entire bottle. On the other hand, if you have long and thick hair, you may need an additional bottle.
- Only leave the color product in your hair for the duration instructed.
- Rinse the color from your hair with cool to lukewarm water. Rinse hair until the water runs clear.
- Do not wash hair for 24 - 48 hours after coloring.
- Keep your color lively and fresh with a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for color-treated hair.
