Consumer Reports ShopSmart magazine tested 10 hair dryers to find if there were big differences in performance.
Testers put to the test hair dryers costing between $20 and $200. They all dried at about the same speed.
It was discovered that the drying rate was not affected by things such as “pure ceramic technology” and “tourmaline ionic”.
However, testers found that there were big differences in how noisy hair dryers are.
The loudest dryer was the Conair Ionic Cord Keeper.
The quietest dryer was the Chi Pro-dryer GF-1505. It costs $135, but testers really liked it.
ShopSmart says that the Revlon Ionic Ceramic Pro Stylist RV484 is all you need if you want a great haircut. It costs just $20.
Consumer Reports tests also showed that the number of watts is no indication of how well a dryer dries.
