Henna is a natural alternative to commercial hair color products. It is commonly used to redden hair, especially dark hair.
Benefits of coloring your hair with henna color include:
- Absolutely no chemicals;
- Can be used by almost everyone without drastic side-effects;
- Can be used as a natural conditioner;
- Gives your hair long lasting lustrous shine;
- Gives your hair silky texture;
- Can be used to cover gray hair (however, gray hair can become orange).
If you are applying henna for the first time, you should do a strand test. This way you will find if you are allergic to henna powder.
Also, don’t apply henna color on the scalp.
Keep in mind that effects of henna differ from person to person.
In addition, if your hair is permed or bleached, the results may not be the same as on normal hair.
The color results depend upon the length of time the henna was left on the hair, and any added ingredients. Since its concentration is difficult to control, results can be unpredictable.
