About Layered Hairstyles - Pros and Cons

For some women, layered hairstyles are the best haircuts because they offer subtle and extreme changes.

In order to create a layered effect, hair must be cut different lengths throughout.

Whether you have long or short hair, layered hairdos add a trendy look to your tresses.
If you want to refresh an old look without a radical change, adding layers is one of the easy options.

There are different types of layered hair styles. Two main ones are the uniform layer and long graduation.

With the uniform layer, the hair is cut at 90 degrees to the head, the same length from the head.

With long graduation, the hair is cut at 180 degrees, with layers that gradually get longer until they are one length.

A version of the hairstyle involves making obvious distinction between the various layers so that they do not blend seamlessly. For example, hair coloring can be used to some layers to create a distinctive effect.

Layers are good for increasing hair volume and adding texture and definition to shorter styles.

However, if you have wiry and frizzy hair, layers are not so good. Another disadvantage is that lots of time is needed to grow layers out. You also need to have regular trims so that styles do not lose their shape quicker.
