Hair Extensions Warning!

Hair extensions are very popular these days but this may change soon.

According to skin experts, women who use hair extensions can develope permanent bald patches.

These experts warn that hair extensions that are attached to the natural hair by glue may cause permanent baldness.

American and Italian dermatologists (the University of Miami in Florida in the U.S. and Bologna University in Italy) say the extensions put too much tension on hair roots.

As a result, hair follicles become so inflamed that the hair falls out – this condition is called traction alopecia.

Experts are even calling for a ban on the extensions.

Hair specialist Barry Stevens from the Trichological Society said: “This is a very real problem. Extensions should be banned. I’ve had people in tears at my clinic over this. The extensions can destroy the follicles so that hair cannot grow back.”

Celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Kate Beckinsale, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears have all been spotted with thinning hair after using extensions.

Mr Stevens added: ‘My advice to women is stop using them.’

The research has been published in the British Journal of Dermatology.
