Selling of Human Hair Increases Significantly

The tough economy is taking its toll on hair, too.

Thehairtrader.com, a web site that sells human hair, reports that the number of women trying to sell their tresses has quadrupled during the economic meltdown.

Sales are up 50% over this time last year. The hair is used for wigs, extensions and doll manes.

Melinda Mullin, the site’s spokeswoman, said that most of the sellers are from the United States.

However, the buyers are coming from around the world and are paying $2,000 for the most luxurious hair.

“I’m currently unemployed and I thought if I could get a little bit of money, I would try,” said one woman, who is offering her 24-inch ponytail.

I do not know about you, but this is really sad news to me!
