Hair Dye Allergies Can Cause Real Dangers

A gruesome story has appeared in the British media.

Beautiful teenager was rushed to hospital “looking like Elephant Woman” after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

She was temporarily blinded after using the bottle of Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Perfect 10.  The color caused her face to balloon. She also suffered from breathing difficulties.

The biggest problem is that the 13-year-old blonde did a 48-hour allergy test before using the color to go dark brown. Despite the test showing negative the allergy appeared two days later.

Clairol apologized for the incident but added that allergic reactions are possible on occasion. The parents have called for better health warnings on packaging.

This is not the only recent story about hair dye dangers.

A woman in Chicago has used Bigen oriental black hair dye and did a patch test on her scalp. She waited one day and colored her hair. At night, her scalp started itching intensely. Her face continued to swell for two days, until the medications took effect.

Instructions for Bigen hair dyes tell customers to wait 48 hours after patch test is done before coloring their hair. The woman only waited 24 hours.

To make the things even worse, Fox Chicago News reported that two women have died because of severe allergic reactions to hair dye.

The experts say allergic reactions typically worsen gradually over time.

Most over-the-counter hair coloring products contain chemicals that can be bad for your health. Some of them are carcinogenic.

The most toxic chemicals in hair dye include: coal tar, sodium laurel sulfate, parabins, pthlates, acetate and ammonia.
