There is an excellent article over at abcNEWS titled Shining a Light on 9 Hair Loss Treatments.
It talks about older and newer treatments that have been tried and the pros and cons of trying them out.
Men can try these options to stop, reverse or delay hair loss:
1. Follicular Unit Transplant – the best option for men seeking to deal with their hair loss.
2. Botox – a new potential baldness treatment, it has met lots of skepticism.
3. Rogaine – the topical application of minoxidil; good for men who are early on in the process of losing hair. Not so good for people who have already lost a lot of their hair.
4. Hair Plugs – this process is no longer widely used. It served as a previous generation of follicle transplant.
5. Propecia – the best medication for hair loss. It works about 85% of the time.
6. Flap Hair Restoration – has not been done in a while. It has many drawbacks.
7. Laser Combs – there are still no independently conducted studies confirming that they work.
8. Stem cells – they are not used as a hair loss treatment now, but will be available in 5 –20 years.
9. Toupee – hairpieces and wigs are only solution for men who completely lost their hair and cannot use any of the above treatments.
