Winter Hair Tips

During cold, winter months, when temperatures plunge outdoor and heat rises indoor, hair is often robbed of essential moisture. Hair that lacks moisture looks dull and frizzy. It can also split and break.

And when you add heat styling, your hair becomes brittle and hard to manage.

Here are some winter hair tips, provided by Sally Beauty Supply, to revitalize stressed hair:

- To repair dry and frizzy hair, try a hot oil treatment for immediate improvement. You can try Ion Hot Oil Deep Penetrating Treatment. Simply heat the bottle or tube in hot, water for 2-3 minutes, then apply and rinse. If hair becomes too oily, choose a hair masque or a reconstructive conditioning crème.

- Use weekly treatments to reverse the damage, but you should also use a good daily conditioner to help prevent additional damage. A daily conditioner shouldn’t be so heavy that it leaves residue; it should lightly condition and detangle the hair. If you have very coarse or curly hair, use an additional leave-in detangler.

- Heat styling quickly damages hair. If you curl or straighten your hair with an appliance, you should always use heat-protecting products. A good option is Beyond The Zone Turn Up The Heat Serum. It provides thermal protection from heat stress, while conditioning and smoothing.

- If you notice flakes, it is time for anti-dandruff products. Try those with pyrithione zinc or coal tar.
