Women with Gray Hair – Blame Your Genes

Most women with gray hair blame their stressful lifestyles when their hair starts to lose color.

However, a new study have found that genes are responsible for graying hair.

A study of more than 200 twin sisters in Denmark found that identical siblings turned grey at almost the same time.

Non-identical twins lost their natural hair color at a different rate.

It may also mean that other aspects of lifestyle such as diet and smoking are not that important factors in becoming gray.

The study also suggests receding hair is linked to mainly genetic factors. But it indicates thinning hair on the top of the head is connected to environmental and lifestyle factors.

Because the research was carried out on women only, it was not possible to draw any conclusions about gray hair in men.

The research is reported online in the Public Library of Science (PLoS) ONE journal.
